Mount Etna Volcano Erupts, Raining Ash on Catania, Forcing Flight Suspension at Native Airport

ROME (AP) — Mount Etna, Europe’s most lively volcano, was erupting on Sunday, spewing ash on Catania, jap Sicily’s largest metropolis, and forcing a suspension of flights at that metropolis’s airport.

Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, or INGV, which carefully displays Etna with instrumentation on the slopes, famous that cloud cowl on a wet day was impeding views of the eruption, which frequently serves up a spectacular show of flaming lava throughout the volcano’s not rare eruptions.

The institute mentioned that ash had fallen on Catania and no less than one city on Mount Etna’s inhabited slopes. No injures have been reported.

Catania airport mentioned because of ashfall, flight operations have been quickly suspended.

INGV indicated that monitoring had recorded proof of a stepping up in tremor exercise in latest days.

People within the cities of Adrano and Biancavilla reported listening to loud booms emanating from the volcano on Sunday, the Italian information company ANSA mentioned.
