“She’s Brown like me”: Younger ladies react to Halle Bailey as Ariel in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”

Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” is making waves amongst younger Black ladies on social media after a primary look of Halle Bailey as Ariel was revealed.

Videos circulating on Twitter present quite a few Black ladies “blind reacting” to the live-action trailer, which features a seconds-long glimpse on the new Ariel swimming below the ocean and singing the music “Part of Your World.” 

“Her pores and skin… it seems to be like mine,” one woman mentioned to her mom.

“She’s Brown like me,” one other woman mentioned in pleasure.

Other ladies coated their faces with pleasure and jumped round with glee. One Twitter consumer created a complete thread of reactions. 

Bailey reacted to the women’ reactions. 

“People have been sending these reactions to me all weekend and I’m really in awe,” the 22-year-old actress tweeted. “This means the world to me.”  

The studio first unveiled the sneak peek of the brand new movie at its D23 Expo. “The Little Mermaid” additionally options Daveed Diggs because the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay because the voice of Flounder, and Awkwafina because the voice of Scuttle.

“The Little Mermaid” is about to hit theaters on May 26, 2023.
